Ohio State's 2006 Heisman winner — the most accurate deep-ball passer in Big Ten history that season.
Troy Smith was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1984. He attended Ohio State University and won the Heisman Trophy in 2006 after completing 67% of his passes for 2,542 yards and 30 touchdowns with just six interceptions. He was the consensus All-American quarterback. He led Ohio State to a 12-0 regular season and a Big Ten championship, reaching the BCS National Championship Game where the Buckeyes lost to Florida. His career produced 5,720 passing yards and 54 touchdowns across two seasons as a starter. His combination of accuracy, decision-making and leadership under coach Jim Tressel made him the most decorated quarterback in Ohio State history to that point. The Baltimore Ravens selected him in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. His professional career was limited but his Ohio State career — the Heisman, the Big Ten title, the undefeated regular season — represents a complete college success story.
