The most dominant single season by a quarterback in college football history — national champion and Heisman winner.
Cameron Jerrell Newton was born in College Park, Georgia in 1989. He transferred to Auburn University in 2010 after one year at Florida and one year at Blinn College. His single Auburn season was one of the most remarkable in college football history: 2,854 passing yards, 1,473 rushing yards and 50 total touchdowns, leading Auburn to an undefeated national championship over Oregon in the BCS National Championship Game. He won the Heisman Trophy in 2010 by the largest margin in the award's history to that point. He won the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's best quarterback and the Manning Award. His combination of throwing ability and running athleticism — he could beat defences in completely different ways on consecutive plays — was unprecedented at the college level and predicted the dual-threat quarterback revolution that would follow in the NFL. Carolina Panthers selected him first overall in the 2011 NFL Draft and he won the NFL MVP in 2015, leading the Panthers to the Super Bowl. His Auburn season remains the gold standard for individual quarterback performance at the college level.
