The most decorated player in SEC history — two national championships and the first sophomore to win the Heisman.
Timothy Richard Tebow was born in the Philippines in 1987 to missionary parents and grew up in Florida. He attended the University of Florida under coach Urban Meyer. In 2007 he became the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy. He led Florida to two BCS National Championships (2007, 2009) — going 13-1 in each of those seasons. His four-year Florida career produced 9,285 passing yards, 2,947 rushing yards and 145 total touchdowns — the most in SEC history. He was named to the All-SEC First Team four times. His 2008 speech after Florida's only loss that season — his promise that Florida and its fans would never be disappointed — became known as the Promise Speech and was placed on a plaque outside Florida Field. He won the Maxwell Award twice. His NFL career at Denver produced one of sport's most culturally discussed seasons — Tebowing as a verb, miraculous comeback wins and a playoff victory — before his professional football career faded. He later pursued professional baseball. His college career — two championships, one Heisman, the SEC's all-time touchdown record — stands as the most decorated in conference history.
