Nebraska's national championship quarterback — produced the most celebrated individual bowl performance of the 1990s.
Tommie Lee Frazier was born in Palmetto, Florida in 1974. He attended the University of Nebraska under coach Tom Osborne and won two consecutive national championships (1994, 1995). He was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist. His 1995 Orange Bowl performance against Florida — considered by many the greatest individual bowl game performance in college football history — produced 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns as Nebraska won 62-24. His final college carry produced a 75-yard touchdown run in which he broke nine tackles — a play that is still replayed regularly as the defining individual highlight of the Nebraska dynasty. He led Nebraska to an incredible 25-0 record across his two championship seasons as the starter. His combined career statistics of 5,476 passing yards, 2,055 rushing yards and 79 total touchdowns across four seasons reflect his dual-threat capability. He was not selected in the NFL Draft due to concerns about blood clots he had experienced — one of the more significant NFL whiffs given his college dominance. He remains Nebraska's greatest quarterback.
