World record holder in pole vault — 6.26m and the only man who breaks his own world records at every major event.
Armand Gylf Duplantis was born in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1999. His father Greg Duplantis was a pole vaulter and MLB pitcher. His mother Helena is Swedish — Mondo chose to compete for Sweden. He broke the world outdoor record eight times — extending it to 6.26 metres, over 10cm ahead of the second-highest jump in history. He won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 — at Paris setting a new world record of 6.25m then 6.26m in the same competition. His vaulting — the technical efficiency of his approach, plant and bar clearance — is used as the model for coaching at every level. He is considered the most dominant athlete in any single track and field event in history.
