Four consecutive Olympic gold medals — Redgrave's partner and one of British sport's most decorated athletes.
Sir Matthew Clive Pinsent was born in Holt, Norfolk in 1970. He won four consecutive Olympic gold medals — three with Steve Redgrave in coxless pairs (1992, 1996) and coxless four (2000), and one with a new crew in the coxless four at Athens 2004. He was Redgrave's rowing partner for the defining period of British rowing history. He broke down in tears at Athens 2004 when the crew won by one length — the emotional release of having carried the weight of expectation for four years. He was knighted in 2005. He became a prominent rowing commentator and has been active in river conservation campaigns.
