Prolific and combative Chilean striker nicknamed 'Bam Bam' who was among the most feared forwards in South America and Spain during the 1990s.
Iván Luis Zamorano Zamora was born in Santiago, Chile on 18 January 1967. Nicknamed 'Bam Bam' for his powerful shooting, Zamorano was Chile's greatest striker and one of the most complete forwards of the 1990s. He began at Cobresal before moves to St Gallen, Seville and Valladolid. His career peak came at Real Madrid (1992-96), where he formed a lethal partnership with Hugo Sánchez and won La Liga in 1995, finishing the season as the division's top scorer with 28 goals. He joined Internazionale in 1996, famously wearing shirt number 1+8 (=9) after Ronaldo R9 took his No. 9 shirt. At Inter he won Serie A in 1998. For Chile he earned 69 caps and scored 34 goals, captaining them at the 1998 World Cup. He also won gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with Chile.
La Liga 1995
When Ronaldo took his No. 9 shirt at Inter Milan, Zamorano famously wore the number '1+8' on his back — with a '+' between the digits — as a witty protest.
