South Africa's most capped Test captain and a formidable opening batsman.
Graeme Smith was born on 1 February 1981 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He made his Test debut in 2002 at age 21 and was appointed captain just a few months later — South Africa's youngest Test captain. He led South Africa in 109 Tests, more than any other captain in the country's history. Smith was a powerful left-handed opening batsman who scored 9,265 Test runs including 27 centuries. Despite a wrist injury in his final Test in Adelaide, he batted one-handed to help save the match — one of cricket's greatest acts of courage.
ICC No. 1 Test team (captain)
In his last Test match, with a broken wrist, he came out to bat one-handed to save the game — one of the bravest innings in Test cricket history.
