Alabama's Heisman winner and national champion — the last of the great SEC power backs.
Derrick Henry was born in Yulee, Florida in 1994. He attended the University of Alabama under coach Nick Saban and won the Heisman Trophy in 2015 after rushing for 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns. He won the national championship with Alabama in 2015. He won the Doak Walker Award and was the SEC Player of the Year. His three-year Alabama career produced 3,591 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns in a backup and starting role. At 6ft 3in and 247 pounds with sub-4.5 forty speed, his combination of size and athleticism made him the most physically intimidating running back in college football. Tennessee Titans selected him 45th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. His professional career confirmed every physical promise his college years showed — he rushed for 2,027 yards in 2019 and 1,538 in 2020, winning the NFL rushing title both years. He was arguably more dominant professionally than he was in college — which makes his Alabama years all the more impressive as a preview.
