The greatest shooter in basketball history and the player who most fundamentally changed how basketball is played — Stephen Curry's ability to shoot from distances previously considered reckless made the three-pointer the primary offensive weapon across the entire NBA. Four championships with the Golden State Warriors, two MVP awards including one unanimous selection. His 402 three-pointers in the 2015-16 season shattered his own world record. More than any player since Michael Jordan, Curry changed what the sport looks like, what teams attempt and what young players practise from the moment they pick up a ball.
Wardell Stephen Curry II was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1988, the son of NBA player Dell Curry. He was considered too small and slight to play Division I basketball and was overlooked by major programmes before Davidson College took a chance on him. He led Davidson to the Elite Eight of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, scoring 25 points per game and announcing himself to the nation. Golden State Warriors selected him seventh overall in the 2009 NBA Draft. His career has rewritten the rules of basketball — he holds the all-time NBA record for three-pointers made with over 3,700, surpassing Ray Allen's previous record by more than 1,000. He won four NBA championships with the Warriors (2015, 2017, 2018, 2022) and two regular season MVP awards (2015, 2016) — the second unanimously, the first unanimous MVP in NBA history. He led the Warriors to 73 wins in the 2015-16 regular season — the best record in NBA history. His shooting range — regularly attempting and making shots from 35-40 feet — forced defenders to guard him full-court and opened the entire floor for teammates. He won the scoring title twice. He was selected to 10 All-Star games. He won Olympic gold with the USA at Paris 2024, finally completing his collection after a long wait at international level. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2025.
