Three Olympic gold medals — Pete Reed is one of Britain's most decorated rowers, winning gold in the coxless four at Beijing 2008 and London 2012. Medical examination found his lung capacity to be among the largest ever recorded in an athlete. Part of the golden generation of British rowing that dominated the sport for fifteen years under coach Jürgen Gröbler.
Pete Reed was born in Truro, Cornwall in 1981. He won three Olympic gold medals in the coxless four (Beijing 2008, London 2012) and the eights (Rio 2016). He holds the largest recorded lung capacity of any athlete ever tested — 11.68 litres (normal is 5-6 litres). He won three World Championship titles. His contribution to the British rowing programme's golden era — winning medals at four consecutive Olympic Games — was exceptional. He was awarded an MBE in 2009.
