Gifted and creative Brazilian midfielder whose skill, vision and goalscoring made him one of the Premier League's most beloved players during his time at Liverpool.
Philippe Coutinho Correia was born in Rio de Janeiro on 12 June 1992. A supremely gifted left-footed playmaker with exceptional dribbling ability, vision and goalscoring from distance, Coutinho was one of the most exciting players in the Premier League during his time at Liverpool. He joined Liverpool from Internazionale in 2013 for £8.5m and developed into one of Europe's finest attacking midfielders, scoring stunning goals and driving Liverpool's pressing game under Jürgen Klopp. Barcelona paid £142m for him in January 2018 — then a British transfer record. Despite winning La Liga and Copa del Rey, he struggled to recapture his best form in Spain and had loans at Bayern Munich (winning the Bundesliga and Champions League in 2020) and Aston Villa. He returned to Brazil with Vasco da Gama. He earned over 92 caps for Brazil.
La Liga 2018, 2019
Barcelona paid £142m for him in January 2018 — then a British record transfer fee — though his time at the Camp Nou never lived up to the extraordinary outlay.
