Four Stanley Cups with Montreal — the younger Mahovlich who was integral to two championship cycles.
Peter Joseph Mahovlich was born in Timmins, Ontario in 1946 — the younger brother of Frank Mahovlich. He played 15 professional seasons, winning four Stanley Cup championships with the Montreal Canadiens (1971, 1973, 1976, 1977). He was named to two All-Star teams. He scored 288 goals and 485 assists for 773 career points. He was a skilled and large forward — 6ft 5in — whose size combined with passing ability made him an effective power forward in the Canadiens system. His most celebrated moment came in the 1972 Summit Series — his relay pass to Phil Esposito for a crucial late goal in Game 7 helped Canada retain momentum in a series they ultimately won. He was part of four different championship runs in Montreal — contributing to each in different roles as the team evolved. His career, while not as decorated as his brother's six championships, reflected quality and consistency across the most successful Canadian franchise of the 1970s.
