La Joya — Juventus's celebrated number 10 whose career never fully converted brilliance into trophies.
Paulo Bruno Exequiel Dybala was born in Laguna Larga, Argentina in 1993. Juventus paid £30 million for him in 2015. His seven Juventus seasons produced six Serie A titles, five Coppa Italias and two Champions League Finals — losing both times. He scored one of the Champions League's most celebrated individual goals against Tottenham in 2017 — a first-time left-foot volley from outside the box that is voted among the finest ever scored in the competition. He won the Copa América with Argentina in 2021. His combination of technical dribbling, vision and finishing from deep positions made him genuinely one of the most gifted footballers of his generation. He struggled with injury consistently — missing multiple major tournaments and significant portions of seasons. He moved to Roma in 2022 as a free agent and won the Europa Conference League in 2022. His career is football's most frequent conversation about the gap between individual talent and collective achievement.
