Three generations of cycling royalty — grandson of Poulidor, son of Adrie, himself the finest classics rider of his era.
Mathieu van der Poel was born in Kapellen, Belgium in 1995. His grandfather Raymond Poulidor was a Tour de France runner-up three times. His father Adrie van der Poel was a professional cyclist. He is the most celebrated classics rider of his generation — winning the Tour of Flanders three times and Paris-Roubaix twice. He won the Road World Championship in 2023. His combination of power, tactical intelligence and the ability to accelerate away from groups in the most difficult conditions makes him the finest one-day classics rider currently competing. He and Wout van Aert represent the finest individual rivalry in professional cycling.
