Charles Frederick Kiraly was born in Jackson, Michigan in 1960. He won Olympic gold medals in indoor volleyball (1984 Los Angeles, 1988 Seoul) and beach volleyball (1996 Atlanta) — the only player to win Olympic gold in both disciplines. He won three World Championship or Olympic titles in indoor volleyball with the US national team. He became the US women's volleyball national team head coach and led them to the 2020 Olympic gold medal. He is considered the finest volleyball player in history and the sport's most recognisable ambassador.
