Darth Maple — three-time PDC World Champion across three separate decades and the most successful Canadian in the history of professional darts. Part's cerebral, patient approach to the game and his ability to produce his best performances in the most important moments made him one of the PDC's most respected champions.
John Part was born in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada on 15 May 1966. He won the BDO World Championship in 1994 before switching to the PDC, where he won the world title again in 1999 and 2008. His three titles span 14 years — the second and third coming 9 years apart — reflecting a consistency that is almost without precedent in the sport. He was a cerebral, methodical player who approached the game analytically, studying opponents and constructing winning strategies with the care of a chess player. He became the most successful player from outside Britain and the Netherlands in the history of the PDC, and a pioneer for the international reach of professional darts.
PDC World Champion 1999, 2008
Part won world titles in the 1990s, the 2000s and narrowly missed a fourth in the 2010s — his longevity at the top level is surpassed only by Phil Taylor.
