Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was born on 17 April 1985 in Le Mans, France, of French and Congolese heritage. He turned professional in 2004 and announced himself spectacularly with a run to the 2008 Australian Open final, his debut Grand Slam final, where he fell to Novak Djokovic. His athletic power game, joyful personality and boxing-influenced movement made him a beloved figure. Tsonga won 18 ATP titles and reached four Grand Slam semi-finals. He retired in 2022 at Roland Garros in an emotional farewell. His career-high ranking was No. 5 in the world.
