Gaël Monfils was born on 1 September 1986 in Paris, France, of Guadeloupean heritage. He turned professional in 2004 and became one of tennis's most beloved entertainers with his extreme athleticism, acrobatic shot-making and extrovert personality. Monfils reached a career-high ranking of No. 6 in 2016. He reached the US Open semi-finals in 2008 and Roland Garros semi-finals in 2008. Married to fellow professional Elina Svitolina, Monfils has won 12 ATP titles and entertained fans for two decades with his gravity-defying movement and showmanship. He continued playing into his late 30s.
