Multiple Arc winners and the jockey who rode Galileo — Ireland's finest flat jockey.
Michael Joseph Kinane was born in Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland in 1959. He is Ireland's most celebrated flat race jockey — winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe three times and riding some of the finest horses of his era including Galileo (Epsom Derby) and Sea the Stars (Arc, Derby, 2000 Guineas). His patience and judgement in a race — allowing horses to travel without forcing them — was technically exceptional. He was champion jockey in Ireland multiple times. He was awarded an OBE for services to racing.
