Exciting young Portuguese striker who announced himself as a major talent at the 2022 World Cup and is tipped for the very top of the game.
Gonçalo Ramos was born in Cascais, Portugal on 20 June 2001. A technically gifted, direct and cool-headed centre-forward, Ramos wrote himself into World Cup history on 6 December 2022 when he was selected ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal's round of 16 match against Switzerland — and responded by scoring a hat-trick in a 6-1 demolition. He became only the fourth player in World Cup history to score a hat-trick off the bench (he started but replaced the nation's superstar). He had developed through Benfica's academy and became a first-team regular, contributing goals as they won the Primeira Liga. PSG paid €65m for him in 2023 where he has continued to impress. For Portugal he has earned over 30 caps since his debut and appears to be the long-term successor to Ronaldo as the nation's centre-forward.
Primeira Liga 2023 (Benfica)
He scored a World Cup hat-trick against Switzerland in 2022, replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in the starting line-up and responding with one of the most extraordinary individual World Cup performances in years.
