Gianluigi Donnarumma was born in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy in 1999. AC Milan gave him his debut at 16 years and 242 days — the youngest goalkeeper to debut in Serie A since 1945. He won Euro 2020 with Italy — a tournament in which he was named Player of the Tournament after a series of outstanding performances culminating in penalty saves in the Final against England. He refused to extend his Milan contract, prompting intense criticism from Milan fans — a departure that generated one of the more volatile individual transfer controversies in Italian football. PSG signed him in 2021 and he reached the Champions League Final. He represented Italy 64 times before age 25. His combination of physical presence, aerial dominance and reflexes at point-blank range position him as Buffon's most capable successor. He is the most talented Italian goalkeeper of his generation and one of the finest in Europe.
