Oakland Raiders Hall of Fame guard and left tackle whose intelligence, technique and physical dominance made him the cornerstone of the Raiders' offensive line and a player's union icon.
Gene Upshaw was the Oakland Raiders' dominant guard throughout the 1960s and 1970s, a physical presence who served as the prototype for the modern pulling guard. A two-time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Famer, Upshaw's size, athleticism, and intelligence made him the best guard of his era. He later became the Executive Director of the NFL Players Association, representing players' rights for nearly 25 years.
