Real Madrid's most commanding modern defender — Champions League winner and Brazil's cornerstone at the back.
Éder Gabriel Militão was born in Sertãozinho, Brazil in 1998. Porto developed him from São Paulo before Real Madrid paid £45 million in 2019. His five Madrid seasons have produced two Champions Leagues (2022, 2024) and three La Liga titles. He formed a central defensive partnership with David Alaba and then Antonio Rüdiger that was regarded as the finest in European club football during Madrid's consecutive Champions League wins. He suffered a cruciate ligament injury in September 2023 — missing six months — before returning to start the 2024 Champions League Final. His combination of pace — exceptional for a centre-back — with aerial dominance and composure on the ball makes him the most complete Brazilian defender since Roberto Carlos's generation. He represented Brazil 42 times. His recovery from serious injury to Champions League winner in the same season reflects the physical quality that Madrid specifically sought when they signed him.
