Cleveland's lead guard and one of the most creative passers of his generation.
Darius Garland was born in Gary, Indiana in 2000. Cleveland Cavaliers selected him fifth overall in the 2019 NBA Draft after just five college games at Vanderbilt due to a knee injury. His career has produced averages of 21.8 points and 7.8 assists per game and two All-Star appearances. He leads the Cleveland Cavaliers in assists every season and has formed one of the NBA's most dynamic young backcourt combinations alongside Donovan Mitchell. His passing creativity — behind the back, no-look, threading passes through impossible angles — gives him an aesthetic style reminiscent of early Magic Johnson in terms of pure playmaking improvisation. His shooting has developed consistently — he shoots 38% from three across his career. He was named All-NBA Third Team in the 2022-23 season. Persistent eye injuries have disrupted his last two seasons, limiting his availability and preventing a full appreciation of his peak level. When healthy he is considered one of the top five point guards in the NBA. His combination of playmaking vision and scoring efficiency from multiple spots makes him one of the most interesting offensive players of his generation.
