Conchita Martínez was born on 16 April 1972 in Monzón, Spain. She turned professional in 1988 and became one of Spain's greatest female players, specialising on clay. She made history by becoming the first Spanish woman to win Wimbledon in 1994, defeating Martina Navratilova in the final. She also reached the Australian Open and Roland Garros finals. Known for her heavy topspin and exceptional clay game, she won 33 WTA titles. She later became a successful coach, leading Garbiñe Muguruza to her Roland Garros title in 2016.
