Legendary Portuguese goalkeeper widely regarded as one of the finest shot-stoppers of his generation and the cornerstone of Porto's great European era.
Vítor Manuel Mãota Baía was born in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal on 15 October 1969. One of the greatest goalkeepers in football history, Baía was the bedrock of FC Porto's success across two decades. He began at Porto in 1988 and became one of Europe's finest shot-stoppers, winning everything the Portuguese game had to offer. A brief spell at Barcelona in the late 1990s was not a success, and he returned to Porto, where he entered the most successful phase of his career under José Mourinho. He won the UEFA Cup in 2003 and the Champions League in 2004 with Porto, as well as multiple Primeira Liga titles. He earned 80 caps for Portugal between 1994 and 2006, appearing at three World Cups and two European Championships, and played in the 2004 Euro final on home soil. He was named UEFA Goalkeeper of the Year multiple times.
Champions League 2004
He was the last line of defence in Porto's historic Champions League victory in 2004 under José Mourinho, keeping 13 clean sheets in the competition en route to the final.
