The steady hand behind the Portland Trail Blazers dynasty — 17 seasons of consistent brilliance.
Terry Porter was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1963 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Portland Trail Blazers selected him 24th overall in the 1985 NBA Draft. His 17-season career produced 13.0 points and 6.1 assists per game and two All-Star appearances. He was the primary point guard of the Portland Trail Blazers teams that reached two NBA Finals (1990, 1992) — teams featuring Clyde Drexler and featuring some of the most competitive Western Conference battles of the era. He shot 38% from three across his career in an era when that was considered exceptional. He won Olympic gold with the USA at the 1994 FIBA World Championships. He was one of the most respected locker room leaders of his era — his intelligence, consistency and sportsmanship drew consistent praise from teammates and coaches. He later coached the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks. His 17 seasons at a high level without significant injury represents genuine durability and professional excellence. His shooting range, court vision and leadership made him the perfect complement to the more explosive players around him throughout his career.
