Supremely gifted young Japanese winger who became the first Japanese player to win La Liga and one of Real Madrid's most exciting attacking prospects.
Takefusa Kubo was born in Fujisawa, Kanagawa, Japan on 4 June 2001. A technically exceptional winger with extraordinary dribbling, balance and creativity, Kubo was identified as a generational talent from childhood, having spent time in Barcelona's famed La Masia academy before FIFA regulations required his removal due to his age. Real Madrid signed him at 18 in 2019 and sent him on a series of loan moves across Spain — Mallorca, Villarreal, Getafe, Sevilla — where he consistently impressed. Sociedad reached an agreement to sign him permanently in 2022 and he has been outstanding in La Liga, scoring goals and providing assists with his rapid dribbling and sharp finishing. He played at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and has established himself as Japan's most exciting young player. For Japan he has earned over 30 caps.
