The Captain — three Stanley Cups and 23 seasons as the face of the Detroit Red Wings.

Steven Gregory Yzerman was born in Cranbrook, British Columbia in 1965. Detroit Red Wings selected him fourth overall in the 1983 NHL Draft. His entire 22-season career was spent with the Detroit Red Wings. He won three Stanley Cup championships (1997, 1998, 2002) and the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 1998. He scored 692 goals and 1,063 assists for 1,755 career points — the sixth-highest total in NHL history. He won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL's best defensive forward in 2000 — having transformed from a pure scorer in his early career into one of hockey's most complete two-way players. He was the Red Wings' captain for 20 seasons — the longest captaincy in NHL history. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009 and named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017. He became general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning and built the team that won consecutive Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021. He later returned to Detroit as general manager. His combination of individual excellence, leadership across two decades and managerial success after retirement makes him one of hockey's most complete figures.
