The greatest racehorse in history — Triple Crown winner by 31 lengths in the Belmont in a world record time.
Secretariat was a chestnut colt bred by Meadow Stable, foaled March 30 1970. He won the Triple Crown in 1973. His Belmont Stakes performance — winning by 31 lengths in a world record time of 2:24 — is the most celebrated individual race performance in the history of thoroughbred racing. He appeared on the covers of Time, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated simultaneously. His heart, discovered on post-mortem, weighed 22 lbs — three times the size of an average horse's heart. He is universally acknowledged as the greatest racehorse in history. The 2010 Disney film Secretariat dramatised his career.
