Michael Jordan's indispensable partner in Chicago — six-time champion and member of the 1992 Dream Team.
Scottie Maurice Pippen was born in Hamburg, Arkansas in 1965, the twelfth of twelve children. He attended Central Arkansas on a work-study programme before the Chicago Bulls drafted him fifth overall in 1987. His partnership with Michael Jordan produced six NBA championships (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998). Pippen was indispensable — his defensive versatility (capable of guarding all five positions), playmaking ability and offensive contribution made him the ideal partner for Jordan's scoring. He was named to the All-NBA Defensive First Team eight times. When Jordan retired in October 1993, Pippen led the Bulls alone — taking them to the second round that season before Jordan returned. He won two Olympic gold medals with the Dream Team (1992, 1996). After Chicago he played for Houston Rockets (1998-99) and Portland Trail Blazers (1999-2003) before returning for a final Chicago season. He averaged 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game across his career. He was named one of the 50 greatest NBA players in 1996 and to the 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. Often unfairly reduced to Jordan's sidekick, Pippen was a complete player who would have been the star of any other team of his era.
