Dynamic Spanish midfielder who scored spectacular goals for Atlético Madrid and was once considered one of Europe's brightest midfield talents.
Saúl Ñíguez Esclápez was born in Elche, Spain on 21 November 1994. He came through Atlético Madrid's academy and became a key midfielder under Simeone. His driving runs, ability to score spectacular goals and box-to-box energy made him one of the most exciting midfielders in Spain. He scored a brilliant solo goal against Bayern Munich in the 2016 Champions League semi-final. He won La Liga in 2021 and reached the Champions League final. An unsuccessful loan to Chelsea in 2021-22 dented his form. He has earned 19 caps for Spain and was part of the U21 European Championship-winning squad. He has made over 340 appearances for Atlético.
La Liga 2021
His solo goal against Bayern Munich in the 2016 Champions League semi-final, dribbling past four players, is one of the greatest individual goals in the competition's history.
