Magically two-footed Spanish playmaker whose vision, technique and infectious joy lit up Arsenal's midfield.
Santiago Cazorla González was born in Llanera, Asturias, Spain on 13 December 1984. After starting at Villarreal and playing for Recreativo and Málaga, he joined Arsenal in 2012 for £11 million. Equally brilliant with both feet, his close control, creativity and range of passing made him one of the most technically gifted players in the Premier League. He made 180 appearances and scored 29 goals for Arsenal, winning two FA Cups. A devastating ankle injury in 2016 led to multiple surgeries and nearly resulted in amputation of his foot. Remarkably, he returned to football with Villarreal in 2018 and earned a Spain recall. He earned 81 caps for Spain, winning Euro 2008 and Euro 2012.
FA Cup 2x
After his ankle injury, doctors told him amputation was possible, but he made a miraculous recovery to play top-flight football again and earn a recall to the Spain squad.
