Australia's finest female player in the modern era and the 2011 US Open champion.
Samantha Stosur was born on 30 March 1984 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She turned professional in 2001 and developed into one of the game's best clay-court players. She reached the 2010 Roland Garros final, losing to Schiavone, and won the 2011 US Open by dismantling Serena Williams in the final — one of the most convincing upsets in a major final. She also won Grand Slam doubles titles and was a key member of Australia's Fed Cup team for many years. She retired in 2023. Stosur is known for her exceptional serve and heavy topspin forehand.
US Open 2011
