The Pocket Rocket — eleven Stanley Cups, the most of any player in NHL history.
Joseph Henri Richard was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1936 — the younger brother of Maurice Richard. He spent his entire 20-season career with the Montreal Canadiens, winning eleven Stanley Cup championships — the most of any player in NHL history. He won championships in 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971 and 1973. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1979 and named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017. His nickname the Pocket Rocket reflected both his smaller size compared to his brother Maurice — he was only 5ft 7in — and his explosive speed. He scored 358 goals and 688 assists across 20 seasons. He scored the Stanley Cup-winning overtime goal in Game 7 of the 1971 Finals against Chicago — one of the most celebrated individual championship moments in Canadiens history. His eleven championships remain the standard against which all others are measured.
