The Minister of Defense — Reggie White's 198 career sacks is the NFL's all-time record, achieved through a combination of God-given athleticism and an extraordinary move called the hump that defensive ends still try to replicate. An ordained minister whose faith was as important as his football, White played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers, winning his only Super Bowl in 1996 at the age of 34 — one of sport's most celebrated veteran championships. Two-time Defensive Player of the Year and the most dominant pass rusher in NFL history.
Reginald Howard White was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1961. Known as the Minister of Defense, he recorded 198 career sacks — the second-highest in NFL history. He won Super Bowl XXXI with the Green Bay Packers after the 1996 season, recording three sacks. He was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year twice (1987, 1998) and was selected to 13 Pro Bowls. His combination of speed, strength and technique — particularly the hump move — made him virtually unblockable one-on-one. He was the NFL's signature 1993 free agent, choosing Green Bay and helping transform them into a championship team. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006. He died of cardiac arrhythmia in December 2004 aged 43.
