Arsenal's 'Romford Pelé', a tireless and versatile midfielder whose energy and underrated quality made him a key figure across three title-winning teams.
Raymond Parlour was born in Romford, Essex on 7 March 1973. He came through Arsenal's academy and became one of the club's most enduring servants, making 466 appearances and scoring 32 goals. A tireless midfielder with more technical ability than he was often given credit for, he won three Premier League titles (1998, 2002, 2004), four FA Cups and was part of the 'Invincibles' squad. His stunning long-range goal in the 2002 FA Cup final against Chelsea is one of the most memorable in the competition's history. Parlour earned 10 England caps. His infectious personality earned him the nickname 'Romford Pelé', originally meant as a joke but later embraced with affection. He later played for Middlesbrough and Hull City before retiring.
