One of England's most effective attackers of the modern era, Premier League champion five times with City and FWA Footballer of the Year.
Raheem Shaquille Sterling was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1994 and moved to London aged five. He developed at Queens Park Rangers and Liverpool, making his Anfield debut aged 16 and becoming a regular starter at 17. His pace, directness and finishing potential attracted a £49 million bid from Manchester City in 2015 — controversial given his age but vindicated by subsequent performances. His seven seasons at the Etihad produced five Premier League titles, the FA Cup and four League Cups. He scored 131 goals in 339 appearances and was named PFA Young Player of the Year in 2019. He joined Chelsea in 2022 for £47.5 million. He earned over 80 caps for England and scored 20 international goals. He scored in the Euro 2020 semi-final victory against Denmark and has been one of England's most consistent attacking threats in major tournaments. Beyond the pitch, he has been a vocal campaigner against racism in football — his response to racist abuse from fans and his open media communications on the subject have been widely praised. The Times named him as one of the most influential black Britons in 2020.
