Nigel Winterburn was born in Arley, Warwickshire on 11 December 1963. After starting at Birmingham City and Oxford United, he joined Wimbledon before signing for Arsenal in 1987. He became the left-back in Arsenal's famous back four alongside Adams, Bould and Dixon, making 584 appearances and winning three league titles (1989, 1991, 1998), two FA Cups, the League Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1994. Known for his aggressive tackling, competitive nature and reliable defending, he was a key part of the George Graham and early Arsène Wenger eras. He earned 2 England caps. After leaving Arsenal in 2000, he spent three years at West Ham before retiring. He was one of the last players of the famous back four to leave the club.
