Mike Schmidt was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1949. Philadelphia Phillies selected him second overall in the 1971 MLB Draft. His 18-season career produced 548 home runs, three MVP awards (1980, 1981, 1986) and three home run titles. He won 10 Gold Glove awards at third base — the most by any player at that position in National League history. He was a 12-time All-Star. He led the Phillies to the World Series championship in 1980, winning the World Series MVP. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995 with 96.5% of the vote. He is widely regarded as the greatest third baseman in the history of professional baseball.
