Big Mig — five consecutive Tour de France victories through the most powerful time trial engine in the sport.
Miguel Ángel Induráin Larraya was born in Villava, Navarre, Spain in 1964. He won the Tour de France five consecutive times from 1991 to 1995 — the first cyclist to achieve five in a row. His strength was the time trial — he had a lung capacity of 8 litres (nearly double the average) and a resting heart rate of 28 beats per minute (normal is 60-100). He won the Olympic time trial gold at Atlanta 1996. He was remarkably quiet and retiring for a champion of his status. He came to racing relatively late — initially more of a domestique than a leader.
