Luka Doncic was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 1999 and joined Real Madrid's basketball academy at 13. He became the youngest player to debut for Real Madrid's first team in over 20 years. By 18 he had won the EuroLeague championship and been named EuroLeague MVP — the youngest player to win the award. He averaged 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game in the EuroLeague in his final season before the NBA. He won the ACB League title in Spain twice. His final EuroLeague season — played at 18 — produced 16.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game, making him the competition's most outstanding player ahead of veterans who had played the competition for a decade. Dallas Mavericks traded up to select him third overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. His European career — played at the highest club level rather than in the NCAA — is the most comprehensively decorated pre-NBA career in the history of basketball. His EuroLeague MVP at 18 is not directly comparable to a college career but exceeds virtually every college career in terms of competition quality and individual achievement.
