Kane Williamson

Kane Stuart Williamson was born in Tauranga, New Zealand in 1990. He made his international debut in 2010 and became New Zealand's most important batsman and subsequently his most decorated captain. He led New Zealand to consecutive ICC World Cup finals in 2019 and 2021 — losing the 2019 ODI World Cup Final to England on boundary countback in the most controversial conclusion to a major cricket tournament. He won the inaugural ICC World Test Championship Final against India in 2021 — New Zealand's first global ICC title. His batting average in Test cricket of over 54 places him among the elite of his generation. His character — quiet, dignified, rarely appearing in controversy — makes him the sport's most universally respected current figure. His comparison to Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith and himself as the Fab Four of contemporary Test batting dominated cricket discussion throughout the 2010s. He represented New Zealand 289 times in international cricket. His combination of technical perfection and the understated quality of his leadership makes him New Zealand's finest cricketer since Martin Crowe.
