World Cup-winning defender and Bayern Munich's most decorated centre-back of the modern era.
Jérôme Agyenim Boateng was born in Berlin, Germany in 1988 — the younger brother of Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng. Bayern Munich signed him from Manchester City in 2011. His ten Bayern seasons produced nine consecutive Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues (2013, 2020). He won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 — his contribution to Germany's best defensive tournament in decades was central to the championship. He was named UEFA's best defender in 2016. His combination of pace, reading of the game and ball-playing quality from the back made him the ideal partner for a variety of centre-back partners at Bayern across his decade there. He was named to the FIFA World XI twice. His personal life generated significant off-field coverage in Germany throughout his career and after it. He is one of Germany's finest defenders of the modern era despite his career arc being defined as much by off-pitch stories as on-pitch achievement.
