Prodigiously talented English midfielder whose dazzling ability was tragically undermined by persistent injuries.
Jack Andrew Garry Wilshere was born in Stevenage on 1 January 1992. He became Arsenal's youngest-ever league debutant at 16 and announced himself to the world with a masterclass performance against Barcelona in the Champions League in 2011, aged just 19. His close control, passing ability and courage on the ball drew comparisons with the very best. Injuries plagued his career, limiting him to 197 appearances for Arsenal. He won two FA Cups (2014, 2015). He earned 34 England caps. He later played for Bournemouth, West Ham and briefly in Denmark before becoming a coach at Arsenal's academy.
FA Cup 2x
His performance against Barcelona in the Champions League in February 2011 is considered one of the greatest individual displays by an English midfielder in European competition.
