One of the most naturally gifted English footballers ever, a visionary playmaker whose technique and passing were ahead of his time.
Glenn Hoddle was born in Hayes, Middlesex on 27 October 1957. He joined Tottenham Hotspur as an apprentice and became one of the most elegant midfielders in English football history. Over 12 years at Spurs he made 490 appearances and scored 110 goals, winning two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup in 1984. His exquisite passing range, vision and ball control drew comparisons with continental masters. He moved to Monaco in 1987, playing under Arsène Wenger, before returning to England as player-manager at Swindon Town and then Chelsea. He earned 53 England caps and scored 8 goals, though many felt his talent was underused internationally. He later managed England from 1996 to 1999, as well as Southampton, Tottenham and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Arsène Wenger said he was the most skilful English player he had ever worked with, and Diego Maradona called him one of the best passers he'd seen.
