The Immaculate Reception — the most famous play in NFL history, and four Super Bowl rings as the workhorse back of the Pittsburgh Steelers dynasty.
Franco Harris was born in Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1950. Pittsburgh Steelers selected him 13th overall in the 1972 NFL Draft from Penn State. Over 13 seasons he rushed for 12,120 career yards and 91 touchdowns across four Super Bowl championship teams (IX, X, XIII, XIV) and was named Super Bowl IX MVP. He was selected to nine Pro Bowls. The Immaculate Reception — his catch of a deflected pass in the 1972 AFC Divisional playoff game against the Oakland Raiders — is the most celebrated individual play in NFL postseason history. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990. He died in December 2022 aged 72.
Super Bowl IX X XIII XIV Champion
The Immaculate Reception — still the most debated and discussed play in NFL history — was so extraordinary that its legality was immediately challenged and has been argued ever since.
