Australia's most destructive opener — Sandpaper Gate villain, Test redemption story.
David Andrew Warner was born in Paddington, New South Wales in 1986. He is Australia's most destructive opening batsman. He was banned for 12 months — alongside Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft — following the 2018 Cape Town ball-tampering scandal. His ban included a lifetime ban from captaincy. He returned in 2019 and continued to be a world-class performer. He won the ODI World Cup in 2015 and the T20 World Cup in 2021. He scored 8,786 Test runs. He announced his Test retirement after the final Test of the 2023-24 home season — before changing his mind briefly — in one of cricket's more confused individual farewell sequences.
