Big Shot Bob — seven-time NBA champion and the most decorated role player in basketball history.
Robert Horry was born in Andalusia, Alabama in 1970. Houston Rockets selected him 11th overall in the 1992 NBA Draft. His 16-season career produced seven NBA championships — the most by any non-Celtic player in NBA history — despite averaging only 7.0 points per game. He won championships with the Houston Rockets (1994, 1995), Los Angeles Lakers (2000, 2001, 2002) and San Antonio Spurs (2005, 2007). His nickname Big Shot Bob came from his repeated habit of making crucial shots in playoff and Finals situations — his hit list includes game-winning or series-saving shots against the New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, New Jersey Nets and other teams across multiple rounds and series. His most famous shot came in the 2002 Western Conference Finals — a three-pointer with 0.5 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Lakers a 3-1 series lead over the Sacramento Kings. He averaged 9.8 points in Finals games — significantly higher than his regular season average — demonstrating genuine big-game elevation. He was never an All-Star. He represents the archetype of the role player who maximises his value in championship contexts.
